Joanne became a Floridian 31 years ago as a result of a corporate transfer. She has worked virtually her entire career in broadcast media: first radio and later television. Joanne graduated from Niagara University in west New York with a major in French and a minor in Philosophy. She went on to attend graduate school at the University of Paris, St Denis. After 20 months she landed a job as a radio account executive in her hometown of Philadelphia and never looked back.
Twelve years later her employer, Cox Broadcasting, offered an opportunity in Miami as National Sales/General Sales Manager. Joanne then made the leap to TV and joined Univision. For 20 years she worked in business development, national and network sales and managed operations of the cable division. Joanne capped her long career as President of Univision Television Group, overseeing 63 owned and operated stations in the US and Puerto Rico.
Shortly after retirement, Joanne joined the LWV of Broward County in 2013. She has worked with Speakers, Communications and Voter Services committees, and joined the local board in 2014. She was most recently Co-President; during that time they doubled membership, reactivated and added several new committees, dialogued with many community leaders, and helped organize the rally on the Federal Courthouse steps in the aftermath of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas tragedy.
Mentorship has always been a personal priority in the numerous professional organizations Joanne has joined, as she believes that it’s important to identify and support the next generation of leadership. In her spare time, Joanne loves to go biking in our state and county parks, and hike in our national parks.
